John Schledwitz was born in Sterling, Colorado, the youngest of three children of Herman Schledwitz and Jane Bowes Schledwitz. John was raised and educated in Sterling, graduating from Sterling High School in 1980. John later moved to Greeley, Colorado. He began his career in law enforcement at the Weld County Sheriff Department in 1988. The running joke between John and his wife Renee was that they ""met in jail""; he was a deputy and she was completing an internship. John transferred to the Thornton Police Department in 1991 where he remained until 1995 at which time he lateralled to the Denver Police Department. It was always his dream to be a Denver Police Officer. He received the news on the same day of the birth of one of his daughters that he had been selected for the Denver Police Department. That day was a day of pride for him on so many levels. He served as a Denver Police Officer with great pride and joy, but even more so he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 23 years Renee; daughters: Brenna Schledwitz, Alyssa Schledwitz, Raena Schledwitz, Erica Quiroga (Edgar), and Kristina Brown (Buddy); granddaughter Bella Wallace; brothers: Herman Schledwitz (Cindy) and Mark Schledwitz; sister Bonnie Kler (John); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
