John Alfred Rubey, fondly known to family and friends as Roger and “Uncle Roger,” passed away unexpectedly in his home with his wife Donna by his side. He was born on October 5, 1951, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, he lived a life defined by his faith, leadership, and devotion to his family.

The son of Charles and Catherine Whalen-Rubey, Roger grew up in a bustling household as the eldest of eight children. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and economics from Regis University, where he also showcased his early leadership skills as head of the activities board, coordinating concerts, films, and student programs. After graduating from college he earned his CPA. Later, he pursued and earned his MBA from the University of Houston.

John was the Executive Producer for Rubey Entertainment and previously served as the first Chief Executive Officer of Fathom Events, where his vision and leadership propelled the company to remarkable growth in both revenue and audience attendance. Before his tenure at Fathom, he held the role of President at AEG-TV and Network LIVE, producing a wide array of live events that reached audiences worldwide.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John’s heart was always with his family. He met his bride Donna at Regis University and married in 1977. In 1986, they moved to Spring, Texas, to further his career in entertainment. In 1992, they moved to Agoura Hills, CA where he started his own business Spring Communications and Rubey Entertainment. In 2023, John and Donna moved back to where it all started to enjoy semi-retirement. John is survived by his children, Melissa, Andrew and his partner Gilbert, Roger and his wife Lauren, and Tim and his wife Clare; and his cherished grandchildren, Stella, Owen, William and Donovan.

John will be remembered for his corny quips, mentor and leadership to countless, dedication to his craft, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on not only through his professional achievements but also through the love of his family and friends who will carry his memory forward.
