John Chavez, born and raised in Denver, Colorado, died peacefully after a long illness on October 5, 2023.
John worked for the majority of his life (35 years) as a miner at the Henderson Mine in Empire, Colorado. He enjoyed his job and the people he worked with until his retirement in 2011.
John’s wife and family were the most important thing to him. After retiring he enjoyed fishing, backyard gatherings, his Broncos, and most importantly, watching his grandsons play high school football.
John was loved dearly by a large, blended family and is survived by his wife Veronica, children Nadine Chavez (Chris), Jodie Venegas, Ernest Wigglesworth (Carrie), Julie DeHerrera (Bob), Charles Wigglesworth (Erin), and his grandson Michael Chavez (Melanie), whom he treated as a son. He is survived by his 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Isadore, Victor, Bobby, Junior, Genevieve, and Monica. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Phyllis Valdez (Mike), brothers Charles Chavez and Mike Valdez, and his grandson Keenan.
Honoring John’s wishes, there will be no formal service held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
He will be loved and missed by all that knew him.
