John Ortiz

John Ortiz, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, in Littleton, Colorado. He was born May 16, 1938, in Holly, Colorado. John lived a fulfilling life of strength and spirit as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  

John proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1959, where he saw Alaska, Greenland, and other parts of the world. John enjoyed serving his country and was always proud of his military service. After his time in the Army, John married Lillian Rodriguez in Dodge City, Kansas, on November 26, 1960.

John had a 35-year career as a system engineer with Lockheed-Martin in various special programs. While working and attending night school, John earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Metro State College in Denver. 

As an avid Denver sports fan, he was a Broncos season ticket holder since the early 1970s and loved attending games with his sons. John was a member of the Military Honor Guard at Fort Logan National Cemetery and The Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at the Denver Rescue Mission and enjoyed extensive travel with his wife and grandchildren after retirement. 

He was a devoted family man who left a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his sons, John Jr., Doug (wife, Cindee) and Darrin; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In this time of grief, may we find solace in the beautiful memories we shared with him and the legacy he leaves behind.

A Funeral honoring his life will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at St Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Littleton, Colorado.

After the service, John will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Colorado.
