Saint Gabriel the Archangel Episcopal Church
Starts at 2:00 pm (Mountain time)
John Taylor Morrison, Jr. MD passed away peacefully after a long illness with family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children: Stephany, Nancy, Elizabeth and John, their spouses, Kent, Mike, Dan and Miriam and their grandchildren, Sabrina, Sasha, Spencer, Meena and Anjali.
John considered Mountain Lakes, New Jersey his hometown, but World War II introduced many relocations and he graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School followed by the University of Wisconsin and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.
John’s practice of medicine began in Colorado at the Boulder Medical Center and ended as Corporate Medical Director of Gates Corporation. At a time when many of today’s medical tests were not available, John’s patients and colleagues appreciated his ability to listen and solve problems.
John was curious, loved acquiring knowledge, and then sharing it with others. He found joy in his retirement years volunteering at Space Odyssey at the Museum of Nature and Science, at the Newman Center, as a Master Gardner, and as a verger in the Episcopal church. He was a disciplined athlete who loved downhill skiing — with bumps! — and his sessions at the gym. John’s competitive streak shined during family game nights, and his humor made him a gracious winner.
And John loved to travel. One month after retiring, John and Barbara embarked upon a year-long “walkabout” through southern Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, India and then taught English in Nepal. Their many road trips across the U.S. included visiting friends and bird watching.
John is fondly remembered for his patience, clever humor (always ready with a pun!), gentle counsel, competitive streak, commitment to excellence, and deep faith. His love for God, family and friends was steadfast.
A private burial at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, CO will take place at a later date.
