John W. Kriz, Jr, 59, passed away on August 19, 2026 at home after fighting a brave battle with both esophageal and brain cancer. He was surrounded in peace and love.

Born on October 28, 1966 in Rapid City, South Dakota, John spent many years living in Steamboat Springs and in Denver. He worked hard as a property manager in Steamboat and later as a warehouse manager for a local hardware store in Denver.

John was an avid hiker in his youth, climbing over 23 Colorado 14er summits. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, cooking, watching sports and traveling to many places to savor different foods and sights. He was a true and faithful friend to many.

John was intensely proud of his children, Rory and Maggie, and their accomplishments. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, first wife Katy (Goodman), brother Michael and longtime girlfriend and partner, Kate.

Funeral services will be held at Horan and McConaty funeral home at 1091 South Colorado Blvd in Denver at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29 with a reception to follow at the family home.
