John ‘Jack’ William Bettinger, age 85, passed away unexpectedly in Littleton, Colorado on December 20, 2025. A proud native of Colorado, Jack was born in Denver on January 3, 1940, growing up in south Denver as the fourth of five children. Jack was a graduate of Mullen High School and embarked on a successful career, initially working for Johnson Control before spending 36 years at Mettler-Toledo Scale working his way up to the Team Leader, before eventually retiring.
On January 15, 1972, Jack married Mary Lois Watson, and they built a happy life together. Jack was known for his unwavering faith and deep dedication to his church community, where he actively participated in various activities.
A passionate sports fan, Jack played golf regularly, particularly enjoying the sport after his retirement. He was a devoted Denver Broncos supporter, holding season tickets for many years and attending games with enthusiasm. Jack’s love for travel led him and Mary on adventures with Ports of Call, where they explored several European countries, Mexico, and numerous states within the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska.
Jack took pride in his yard, and it brought him great satisfaction. He liked to cook, grill on the BBQ, and entertain family and friends, ensuring that everyone felt welcome in their home. He cherished gatherings with his church friends, often enjoying card games and other activities. Family was at the heart of Jack’s life, and he relished every opportunity to be with them.
As a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Jack held the title of “Sir Knight”, reflecting his commitment to service and community. He was also a member of the Littleton Elks, contributing to the bonds of friendship and camaraderie found in those organizations.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, their son, Billy (Bev) of Golden, CO, stepdaughters, Sherry Hassel of AK, and Lisa Sutton of TX, as well as his brother, Byron Bettinger of Antioch, CA. He leaves behind a sprawling legacy, including nephew, Larry (Patty) Bettinger of Buffalo, WY, niece, Gayle Albright of Buffalo, WY, niece, Janet (Mike) Hodgin of Bellingham, WA, nephew, Steve (Betsy) Bettinger of Fall City, WA, nephew, Joe (Laura) Bettinger of Gilbert, AZ, nephew, Don Bettinger of Bellevue, WA, nephew, Dave Bettinger of Bellevue, WA, nephew, Bob (Cathie) Hannigan of Osage Beach, MO, nephew, Jim (Patty) Hannigan of Mooresville, NC, nephew, Tom (Michelle) Hannigan of Denver, CO, niece, Jill Martin of Antioch, CA. He is also remembered fondly by many great nieces and nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren, and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Kiley, infant son, Kenneth, parents, Henry and Clara Bettinger, siblings, Donald Bettinger, Howard Bettinger and Sally Hannigan, and nephews, Dennis Albright, Kevin Hannigan and C.J. Bettinger.
A recitation of the Rosary will take place at HORAN & McCONATY, located at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO, on January 13, at 4pm. A funeral Mass will be held at St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 6673 W. Chatfield Ave., Littleton, CO on January 14, at 10:30am, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 2pm.
