John Mullen Hutcheson was born on November 15, 1926, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, to John Hutcheson (Sr.) and Alice Atkins Hutcheson. He grew up among many cousins, aunts, uncles, and his maternal grandparents.
At age 17 John joined the Navy during World War II as a boatswain’s mate. He departed from San Francisco on the USS Cabildo, an amphibious vessel that took him to Hawaii, the Phillipines, and Japan. He attended Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University), where he met Eula Mary Melugin on a blind date. Many years later, asked how long they had been married, he would reply with a smile, “Forever.”
John worked at a grocery store, the Oklahoma Game and Fish Department, and, finally, for NL Bariod, a company that produced “mud,” drilling fluids for oil wells. He retired as Western Regional Sales Manager.
Throughout his life he relished family, friends, and neighbors, travel, food, drink, golf, walking, tending to his beloved yard, petting dogs, telling stories of his life, following current events, and all sorts of people.
John died on February 25, 2025, at the age of 98, in Centennial, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary. He is survived by his sons Wade Hutcheson (wife Rebecca) and David Hutcheson-Tipton (wife Michelle); along with his grandchildren Ethan (wife Shanna), Claire (fiancé EJ), and Jessie Hutcheson, Angelo (wife Emily) Hutcheson-Tipton, Emily Bliss (partner Forrest), Isaac (partner Nicole), Joy, Andre, and Sally (fiancé Bryce) Hutcheson-Tipton, as well as great-grandchildren Rhett and Levi Hutcheson, Phoenix Hutcheson-Tipton, Norahlea and Emmi Hangartner, and Xander, Quinn, Annie, Liana, Liam, and Lyla Bliss.
Those left behind by John will treasure memories of his smile, laughter, stories, friendship, fierce loyalty, and generosity.
