John Gallegos, Jr.

October 25, 1961 — October 2, 2021

“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” James 1:29

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of John Frank Gallegos, Jr. on 10/2/2021 at the age of 59.  John was a beloved husband, father, pastor, mentor, and friend whose legacy will provide a positive impact to many for years to come. He will be deeply missed.

John was born on October 25, 1961 in Pueblo, CO to his parents Lita and John F. Gallegos, Sr.  When he was only 18years old, he married the love of his life, Lisa and started his family.  In 1981, he dedicated his life to the Lord and instilled the word of God in the hearts of his three sons, Damian, Mark and John.

In 1993, John graduated from the Berean Bible College and became an ordained minister.  He had a big heart for children, but he was passionate about serving the poor and underprivileged in the inner city.  He established and developed many outreach programs in the Denver-metro area such as Sidewalk Sunday School, Youth Works, and Adopt-A-Block.  While working as the Outreach Pastor for Vision Fellowship he brought the word of the Lord to many of the lost and poor by feeding the homeless in Downtown Denver.  He began volunteering at the Denver Rescue Mission after he discovered they served the homeless breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  John’s experience in ministry earned him the opportunity to work as the Volunteer/Work Coordinator for the rescue mission – a job that would normally require a master’s degree.   In 2010, he established Metro Ministries and a mobile food bank.  He remained faithful and continued to pack and deliver boxes of food to more than one million people during the pandemic until his passing. He was a mentor and father figure to many sons and daughters that he loved very much.

John’s first love was the Lord, but close behind was his bride Lisa.  He would call her his princess and often sing love songs to her.  His sons will always cherish the memories of their father collecting and working on cars, four-wheeling in the mountains, and being goofy and crude together.  John wore many hats, but he will remain infamous for his amazing green thumb.  He would spend hours working on his yard planting beautiful flowers and sculpting his lawn to make a peaceful retreat for his family and friends.

John leaves behind his wife of forty-two years, Lisa; three sons Damian, Mark, and John; three daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; and a large extended family, church family and friends.

A virtual-only service will be held on Saturday 10/9/2021 at 2pm.
