John Doggett

John Day Doggett, 93, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away in his home on the evening of April 15th, 2021. Born in Centerville, Iowa on April 20th, 1927 to a farming family, John spent his early years alongside his father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters. The family eventually moved to Colorado where John would begin to establish roots. He served as a paratrooper for the United States in World War II and then would travel the country as a truckdriver; enjoying biscuits and gravy in every truck stop west of the Mississippi. John would marry Joanne Preston on February, 27th 1960 who he would remain with for 44 years until her passing in 2004. During that time, John would lead a full 22-year career as the head forester for the City of Aurora, craft an abundance of wooden furniture in his workshop, and spend countless hours with his son Charlie Steuble, daughter Rebecca Hattel, and grandchildren, Kathy, J.J., Geoff, and Kimberly.

John enjoyed simple pleasures like playing pool and watching “Gunsmoke” but this is not to say his life was “simple” – in fact, it was anything but. John touched the lives of all those he came in contact with, putting kindness before all and meeting this world in a gentle way (usually with a handshake and a smile).

John is proceeded in death by his wife, two brothers (Jim and Murf), daughter (Rebecca), and two sons (Kenneth and Keith).

He is survived by his sister (Virginia), son (Charlie), daughters (Shelley, Sherry, and Sandy), and many grand and great-grandchildren.

John Doggett had many quips – reminding his family and loved ones to “save your money” or “drive with your head, not your foot” and while this is all sound advice, what will truly resonate with those loved ones are his actions. To treat all with fairness, respect, and love – it was how he lived each day and how he will continue to live on.

He will be greatly missed.
