John Paul Franklyn Corrigan, age 89, passed away in Denver, CO on October 15, 2021 surrounded by his three children.
Jack, as he was better known, was born December 1, 1931 in Lakewood, NJ to John Gerard Corrigan and Pauline Elizabeth Shinn. He graduated from Toms River High School in 1949 and then went on to attend college at Villanova University in PA for a year, then Mount Saint Mary’s in MD until he moved to California seeking other adventures. California is where he started his career as an engineering technician and learned about soil testing. He worked in this profession most of his career until he decided to try something new and went to work at the Denver Water Board, from which he retired on November 5, 1995.
He spent his childhood years in New Jersey and the majority of his life in Colorado, but also lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland, California and Michigan. California is where he met his spouse, Susan Abeyta, now deceased, and they were married for nearly 60 years. Jack was a long-time member of St. Dominic Parish, served as a eucharistic minister, volunteered at the Denver Aquarium, the Denver Museum of Natural History and for Project Salvador. Jack’s passion was continuous learning. Once he settled in Colorado, he went back to school at Metro State and also attended the Denver Catholic Biblical School at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. Other passions included reading, keeping fit by walking with his heavy hands around the neighborhood daily, spending time on his rowing machine, and watching movies.
He is survived by his children Eric M. Corrigan (Jeannette), Maureen Heim (Ken) and Jennifer Stolpmann (David); his grandchildren Rachael Germain (Joel) and Kevin Heim, James, Emily and Thomas Corrigan, Christopher, Andrew and Luke Stolpmann; his great grandson Jace Germain; his younger brothers, Barry (Annette), Dennis (Donna), Peter (Carol) and Brian Corrigan; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Susan Abeyta Corrigan.
