It is with great sadness that the children of John Alfred Roy Schmidt Sr. announce his passing on January 2nd at his home in Loveland.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at Horan & McConaty on Saturday, January 27th @ 11 a.m. In honor of Johns favorite dress attire we respectfully request that you join us in wearing blue jeans and flannel shirts.
While we lost our beloved dad, many have lost a friend. Our dad befriended anyone in need, anyone that fostered the same love of life for cars, boats, antiques. We know John wouldn’t want anyone to mourn him but rather we come together to celebrate him and reminisce about the good times, the stories and laughs we shared.
John was the son of Esther E Schmidt (Steinke), and Oscar W Schmidt, he was born June 22, 1944, in Minot, ND. He graduated Glendale High School in 1962 and entered the workforce at Pacific Bell phone company in Los Angeles, he then moved on to a smaller phone company in Paso Robles, California where he dedicated his time until his move to Colorado. Shortly after arriving in Colorado, he joined the Lakewood Fire Department. He served his community as a Lakewood fireman from September 1974 until he retired in September 1994. John moved to Loveland, Colorado in January 2005 where he became an icon in the community by befriending others while enjoying his hobbies that included boating, tinkering with boats & antique cars, he belonged to car clubs, spent time visiting antique stores and cleaning the shores of Carter Lake. There is no doubt he is cleaning the shores of Heaven as we speak.
John was preceded to Heaven by his mother, father, aunts & uncles and many dear friends from his tenure as a fireman.
He is survived by his children; John Schmidt Jr of Loveland, CO; Debra Mills of Loveland, CO; Robert Schmidt of Parker, CO; Kerry Schmidt of Littleton, CO and Douglas Schmidt of Littleton CO; 16 grandkids, 23 great-grandkids.
