JoAnn Kay Schallhorn (Rohrbach) died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Surprise, Arizona on February 13, 2018 at the age of 85. JoAnn is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Robert George Schallhorn and her six children Robert George Jr. (Frances), Steven Craig (Eileen), Mark Brian (Vicki), Pamela Kay (Schallhorn) McClain (Michael McClain), Lynn Marie (Schallhorn) Bellis (Shawn Bellis) and Paul Alan (Sherrie) and their 21 grandchildren and 12+ great grandchildren as well as her sister Kay (Rohrbach) Kieker and brother Leonard Rohrbach and many nieces and nephews. Her grandson Bryce David Schallhorn preceded her in death. JoAnn was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Wauwatosa High School where she met the love of her life Robert George Schallhorn. She began a dental hygiene program at Marquette University and convinced her then boyfriend (and soon to be husband Bob) to attend dental school. They were married on July 28, 1951 and began their adventure. The family grew and Bob, Jr., Steve and Mark were all born in Milwaukee where they lived until the Army took them to Colorado for a brief stay. Their next stop was Monterey, California where Pam and Lynn were added to the family. They were then stationed in Anchorage, Alaska for several years where the family count increased to an even six children with Paul. They eventually settled in Colorado where they have maintained their primary residence since 1965. JoAnn was an exceptional painter and loved to read. She was devoted to her family and had an infectious smile and her laughter would fill the room with joy. She made everyone she met feel welcome and no one ever left hungry from her home. JoAnn is loved by many and will be deeply missed. We take great comfort in the knowledge that she was a child of God and is resting peacefully with Him now.
