Jo Ann Best

Jo Ann Best passed away peacefully in her home on May 11, 2023 with her husband and daughters by her side. She was born on January 28, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY. When she was two years old, her family moved to Staten Island where she graduated from New Dorp High School in 1973. She worked at South Beach Psychiatric until she moved to Colorado in 1978. She married her husband Carl in 1983 and had two daughters, Kim & Kasey. Jo Ann went on to work at Coldwell Banker and retired from Cigna in 2017 after 20 years.

She was very involved with the St Vincent de Paul community while her daughters attended that school. She also was a part of all activities and sports her children were interested in. From girl scout leader to soccer mom, she was there. It didn’t just stop at her children; Jo Ann was extremely caring and helpful to all her friends and family wherever she could but would also keep everyone in line. She was after all, The Sarge.

She loved to bowl and was in a league for many years. She loved playing all board and card games. And had the game show network on all the time. Jo Ann was an avid lotto player and would never miss a drawing. She loved to travel and one of her favorite trips was her Alaskan Cruise.

In her later years, her grandchildren were her everything. The only reason she retired from Cigna was so she could care for her grandchildren. Rowan was her best friend and the two would go everywhere together.

She is survived by her husband, Carl, daughters, Kim & Kasey (Andrew), grandsons Rowan & Crosby. She is also survived by sisters Donna Rubey (John), Eileen, Diane Rubey (Patrick), Barbara Andrillo (Anthony), Margie, Paddy (Frank), brother Donald, brother in laws Jim (Maureen) and Dan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald & Stella Holton and in-laws Wayne & Clarice Best.
