Joan Marie Zerr, 80, of Denver passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on September 22, 2024. Born on May 3, 1944, in Hollywood, California to Wilson & Mary Crowther, she grew up on Long Island, New York until she was eight. Her family then moved to Denver, where Joan settled for the rest of her life. She lived happily with love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Joan was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother to her five boys: Phillip (Bridget), Mike (Wendy), Steve (Angie), Eldon (Marcie), and T.J. (Kristen). Her greatest joy came from her 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her life. She loved watching their activities, making memories, and instilling values that will last for generations.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Patty and is survived by her siblings Jim (Carol) Crowther, Jack (Diane) Crowther, and Cornelia (Milton) McQuage, along with a niece and seven nephews. Born and raised a Catholic, she relied on and stayed strong in her faith.
She worked at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in the Psychiatry Department as an administrative professional for three decades. The close friendships at work and helping the medical students progress through their studies were the favorite parts of her career.
In addition to her family and work, Joan had a zest for life, and that included her many friend groups from her retiree friends to her investment club and bridge group. She was an avid movie buff, enjoyed playing cards and mah jongg at her retirement community, and was a passionate fan of tennis and the Denver Broncos.
Joan's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered for her warmth, laughter, and most importantly, her boundless love for family.
