Joan Mary Newlin of Littleton, Colorado, passed away at her home on August 13th 2021 of natural causes at the age of 99 years.
Joan was born in Toogoolawah, Queensland, Australia on July 12, 1922. She grew up on the family farm on the banks of the Brisbane River. Shortly prior to World War II she moved to Brisbane where she worked as a teletype and telegraph operator during the War. On her 21st birthday she attended a USO dance in Brisbane where she met her future husband, an American soldier Duane Newlin. They married on Oct 14, 1944. At the end of the War, Duane returned to the United States, where Joan later joined him, living in Rapid City, South Dakota until 1950 when they had their first child and moved to Denver and later Littleton, Colorado where they were blessed with two more children, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She resided in Littleton until her death.
Joan was the personification of the consummate home maker, being a phenomenal seamstress (including making her daughter and granddaughter's wedding dresses), a talented cook, and a flawless mother and wife. She loved her gardens and was a devout Catholic.
She is preceded in death by her husband Duane, sister Ailsa, brother Allan and her parents James and Marcella. She is survived by her 3 children, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her sister Betty.
In accordance with Joan's wishes there will be a small family funeral service on September 10, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Light Of the World, 10306 West Bowles Ave., Littleton, CO, 80128. She will be interred at a later date with her husband Duane at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
