Joan Amelia Murphy

Joan Amelia Murphy born August 17, 1947 of Aurora, CO. was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) a rare disease that had no cure available, passed away on Thursday March 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was born in Faribault to parents Ronald and Josephine Matthies. She married Jim Hein, they divorced. She then married Bernie Murphy who passed away from cancer. Later she became engaged to Dan Long.

She was previously employed at McQuays in Faribault. She moved to Aurora, Colorado and became employed by Barton Supply. She worked in sales selling construction supplies and was very successful, often the top salesperson. She recently chaired the Charity Foundation for Barton Supply. She loved working at this capacity. The charity grew under her management. She loved making Christmas special for impoverished families, and orphanages. Joan loved her family and friends and cherished them unconditionally. She was very involved with Veteran affairs and did lots of volunteer work.

She is survived by her five children. Mike and Kat Hein, James and Priscilla Hein, Todd and Cindy Murphy, Troy Murphy and Michael Murphy. Her siblings Mary Ann Thompson, Dick and Sandy Matthies, Jan and Larry Odegard, and Dale and Deb Matthies. Many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Josephine Matthies, stepfather Ed Gillen, siblings Larry Matthies, Michael Matthies, brother-in-law Frank "Butch" Thompson and Jim Bahe. Granddaughter Holly McBeth.

Funeral Services will be at the funeral home, Horan & McConaty, Parker Rd., 11150 E Dartmouth Ave. Aurora, CO 80014 on April 25, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.
