It is with deep love and profound sadness that we share that our dear husband, father, brother and
Papa, Jim Lustig age 78, passed away on May 22, 2021 surrounded by his family at the hospital from complications due to an accidental fall at home.
Born in Petoskey, MI, to James Carl Lustig and Ruth Meister Lustig, he was an older brother to Ron and Mark Lustig and his sister, Linda Poppel.
Jim always had a strong work ethic. During his youth, he worked as a paper boy and a clerk at a grocery store in Detroit. He graduated from the U of D high school in 1961. He then served 4 years in the Air Force in Salina, Kansas where he met the love of his life, Linda, at a college dance. They married in 1966 and soon moved to Denver to start their new life together. He worked in IT for 41 years and retired 11 years ago from Software AG.
Jim filled his retired life in service to others as an usher at Lone Tree Arts Center and treasurer for the Highlands Ranch Senior Club. He was also a member of the grill team at St. Andrews United Methodist Church and volunteered for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Dept.
His positive attitude and giving loving spirit had everyone who met him instantly liking him and he was known for his gift of conversation with friends and neighbors old and new. He loved taking care of his home and car and following the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Rockies. He prided himself on keeping himself informed by reading the news online. He and Linda enjoyed traveling to Europe, Mexico, and New Zealand on their own and with the Friendship Force Club of Denver.
For Jim, family came first. He was extremely devoted to his wife of 54 years, his daughter Chris (Jeff) of Victorville, CA. and Greg (Jennifer) of Highlands Ranch, CO. and his grandchildren, Justin, Taylor, Madelyn and Erica. Fond memories were shared from our family trips all around the country and Mexico.
Jim had a wonderful gift of savoring each moment. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with during his life. His giving spirit will live on through his tissue and bone donation to Donor’s Alliance.
Please come and join us as we celebrate Jim’s life on June 14th at 11:00 AM, at Horan and McConaty funeral home at 5303 E. County Line Road in Centennial. In lieu of flowers, please help his kindness and compassion continue by donating to Unity of Littleton or the Denver Rescue Mission.
