Jerry Olsen

On the morning of October 2, 2021, Jerry V. Olsen of Arvada, CO passed away at his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 95.

Jerry was born to Wilber and Margaret Olsen, in November 1925, in Spanish Fork, Utah. He had a sister (Dorothy) and 4 brothers (Max, Lynn, Ferris, and Derald), all immediate family members have preceded him in death.

He grew up and went to High School in Spanish Fork, UT. He was drafted into the US Navy in February 1944 before he graduated high school.

Jerry was extremely proud of his military service in the US Navy.  He served aboard the USS Cumberland Sound during WW11.

After his service in the US Navy, Jerry met the love of his life, Coleen.  They were married on Valentines Day, 1948 in Spanish Fork, Utah.  The couple were later forever sealed together in the Manti Temple in 1963.  They remained sweethearts throughout their marriage and were blessed to celebrate 72 incredible years together.

They raised 3 children Dennis, Denise and Derald. Jerry was extremely proud of his children and often would credit Coleen with raising such wonderful people.

Jerry worked for the Rio Grande Railroad as a dispatcher for 36 years until his retirement in 1987.

He loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, gardening and telling his famous stories.  He always enjoyed teasing the grandkids and continued to have an amazing sense of humor, even in his last days.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Coleen; his children, Dennis (Lorna) Olsen of Kooskie ID, Denise (Tom-decd) Behunin of Arvada, CO, Derald (Leslie) Olsen of Mapleton UT.  Jerry had 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.

Jerry will be missed dearly by his family and by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday Oct. 7, 2021 at Horan & McConaty Mortuary located at 7577 W. 80th Ave., Arvada, CO at 3:00 pm. A viewing will he held one hour prior to the service.

Military Honors and Burial will be on Oct. 25, 2021 at 11:15 am at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
