Janice Estay Butler, age 88, passed away on June 23, 2024. She graduated from Santiago College in Chile and Cazenovia Junior College in N.Y. Janice was born and raised in Chuquicamata, Chile and moved to the U.S. for college. In New York, Janice worked for the United Nations as a tour guide, where she met visitors from all over the world and famous diplomats and journalists. She also worked at Bonwit Teller as a personal shopper and at First National City Bank on Wall Street. She is predeceased by her loving husband, John C. Butler; her parents, Juan and Nora Estay, sibling Analida Estay Domingo Estay, Hilda Estay, and Analida Estay; brother-in-law Edward C. Butler; sisters-in-law Maria Teresa “Teche” Estay, Claire Butler Eckstein, Anne Butler, and Erika F. Butler, her niece Leslie Eckstein, her beloved dogs Honey, Smiley, and Louie, and her grand fur babies Hercules, Jack, Mars, and Tammy. She is survived by her brother, Juan Estay; sisters-in-law Enriqueta Estay and Helen Butler; children Nora Butler Anderson and her husband Mark Anderson, Annie Butler, Janice Butler and her husband John Hanle; and Edward P. Butler and his wife Sarah Mears; her nieces and nephews Janice D' anduono, Monica Simpson, Alison E. Colton, Christine Butler, Sarah Butler O’Flynn, John Estay, Walter Estay, Andres Estay, David Estay, and Claudio Estay, grandchildren Mayaih Kinney, John Helfrich, and Anna Helfrich, and her grand fur babies Massimo, Lil’ Miss, and Bodhi. Janice raised her family in Colorado and traveled extensively locally and abroad with her husband and kids. She was a voracious reader and animal lover and cherished St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. She loved Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Johannes Brahms, John Lennon, George Shearing, and Paul Newman. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 11, at Horan & McConaty funeral home on Grant Street in Thornton, CO, at 11:30 a.m. The interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in her name to the animal-related charity of your choice.
