Janet was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 7, 1949 to Maurice S. and Elinor Reid.
She attended Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa in 1971 with a degree in Commercial Art.
Janet married Thomas C. Helgeson, a lawyer, on October 27, 1973. They took up residency in Arvada, Colorado. Janet is survived by her husband, Tom, and two children, Amy Helgeson and Erik Helgeson. Erik and his wife, Allison, have three children: Landon, Blair, and Brodie.
Janet was musically gifted. She played the flute for the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra, the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra and many local ensemble groups over the years. She taught flute lessons to many students. She played regularly for church services at the King of Glory Lutheran Church.
Janet was very athletic and competitive. As a child, she was an ice speed skater. In high school, she played tennis, which she continued to play as long as she was physically able. She was an excellent downhill skier and, after college, spent a winter in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She took up golf in her 30's and played right-handed, although she was a lefty. She became a champion golfer. Janet and Tom were members of The Club at Rolling Hills, a country club in Golden, Colorado.
Janet owned and managed real estate. She took great pride in the property and the quality of life it provided to her tenants.
In 2020, Janet found out that she had cancer. She fought hard for five years with Chemo treatments and hospital visits before it finally took her away.
Janet was a member of the King of Glory Lutheran Church and a Christian. She will rest in the peace in Heaven.
