Jane Swanson, a woman whose love for her family knew no bounds, passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 85, just six months after the passing of her beloved husband, Carl A. Swanson Jr., on December 17, 2025. Jane and Carl had finally been reunited.
Jane was born on July 18, 1940, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Joseph E. Gust and his wife, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in Pueblo alongside her brother, Joseph (deceased), and her sisters, Jeanie and Joy. She attended Pueblo Catholic High School, where her warmth and spirit were already evident to those who knew her. She went on to attend Pueblo College, where she was a proud sister of Sigma Sigma Pi, and later continued her studies at the University of Colorado.
On January 12, 1963, Jane married the love of her life, Carl A. Swanson Jr. Together they built a beautiful family, raising four children: Carl Alfred II (Tanja) Swanson, Jeffery Raymond (Gretchen) Swanson, Jennifer Lynn (Tom Hoffman) Swanson, and Theodore Joseph Swanson. Jane's world expanded with the arrival of eight grandchildren — James Marc (Morgan) Swanson, Jeremey (Michelle) Swanson, Eva Hoffman, Carl Swanson III, Gregory Swanson, Matthew Swanson, Elizabeth Hoffman, and Nicholas Swanson — and later, four great-grandchildren: Ella Jane, Audrey, Abigail, and Beau, each of whom brought her immense joy.
Jane possessed a remarkable gift for sewing, and her talent knew no limits — she could craft anything from an elegant formal gown to the coziest pair of pajamas, often as an expression of her love for the people around her.
Her devotion to children extended well beyond her own family. As a daycare director, Jane became a beloved "mom" to countless children in her care, offering them the same warmth, patience, and nurturing spirit she gave her own. Her commitment to community service was steady and lifelong — she volunteered faithfully, once a week, with History Colorado and at the State Capitol. That dedication eventually led her to a position as Director of Tours at the Capitol, where she once again touched the lives of hundreds of children, sharing her love of history and her gift for connecting with young people.
Even after retirement, Jane remained active and an integral part of the St. Jude's Catholic Church community, continuing to give of herself in the ways that had always defined her life.
Jane will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a gifted seamstress, and a woman who made everyone she met feel cared for. Her legacy of love, generosity, and quiet service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Swanson Jr., and her brother, Joseph Gust. She is survived by her sisters, Jeanie Cunico and Joy Gram; her children, Carl (Tanja), Jeff (Gretchen), Jennifer (Tom), and Ted; her eight grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, July 8, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Lakewood, Colorado. A reception will follow.
