Jane Moore, a retired Denver Public Schools teacher, world traveler, volunteer, inveterate movie, concert and theatergoer, and friend to many, died peacefully on April 21st, Easter Sunday, at Denver Hospice. She had experienced a gradual decline and multi-organ failure. Jane was 80.
Born July 3, 1938 in Adams County, Iowa, to Linus and Teresa (Keefe) Moore. She was the youngest of four sisters, Rosemary, Rita and Benita. Jane attended Corning schools and was a graduate of Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa and Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa.
She moved to Denver in the mid 60's and briefly worked as a social worker at Catholic Charities before becoming a teacher for the Denver Public Schools, where she taught elementary school throughout the system; retiring in 1992.
During her years of teaching, she took advantage of summers off to continue her education by taking graduate teaching courses at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley or traveling. Jane traveled extensively throughout North and South America, Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, India, Thailand, and Africa. After her retirement she continued to travel with her sisters and friends. On her travels, she was determined to see everything she could-museums, theater and historical sites.
Throughout Jane's life, she was an enthusiastic attendee of concerts and the theater. She also did volunteer work for the Catholic Church, of which she was a lifelong member. Her faith was important to her.
Her friends knew Jane as someone who was constantly on the go, sometimes attending several events in a 24-hour period. She loved going to lectures, political events, and community gatherings in her Montclair neighborhood and throughout Denver. She also enjoyed trying new restaurants, archiving local news, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and seeing contemporary and old movies.
Perhaps Jane's greatest talent was in finding, making, and keeping friends. She organized get-togethers and often threw backyard parties in the summer. As some friends could no longer drive, she took them to doctors' appointment or to pick up groceries.
Jane is survived by her sister Benita Moore, niece Liz Stanton, of New York City, and her great-nephew, Luke (son of David and Nancy Stanton) of Denver. Her parents, sisters Rosemary Moore, CHM and Rita Stanton, along with her nephew David Stanton, predeceased her.
Services will be held at Christ the King on Tuesday April 30th at 2 pm.
