Jane Chaffin age 86 passed away June 5, 2014. She was Born January 2, 1928 in Platteville Colorado to Nora Sibley (Noles) and Edward Canby Sibley. Jane is survived by Mark Stanley Chaffin & Charlotte Chaffin (Esquibel) her grandsons Michael S and Kristina Chaffin (McOmie) great granddaughters Sydney Ella Chaffin, and Brooke Hope Chaffin. James J Chaffin, Fiancé Heather Humphrey. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon H. Chaffin. June 12th services are at 10:30 a.m. at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home 11150 E Dartmouth Ave. Aurora. The viewing is being held one hour prior to the service. A reception follows the service. A 2:00 p.m. Entombment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Jane was a long time resident of Windsor Gardens she enjoyed long walks on Highline Canal. Jane was proud of her father's military service in the Spanish American war as a roughrider. Jane's mother passed away, as did her brother during childbirth. Jane was 2 or 3 years old. Due to the Great Depression her father could no longer care for Jane and made arrangements for her Foster Care in Colorado. John W Metzger was her guardian ad litem. He is credited with obtaining United States Veterans coverage being extended to the Spanish American Was and hence providing for Jane. Jane lived in Denver Baker Neighborhood and attended Denver Schools. In grade school a librarian helped her learn to read. At West High Jane flourished she enjoyed dances and became one of West Highs two First Junior ROTC girls elected into the organization by the school body. Jane worked on the sewing of collars for each singer and stood in at the school's first singing Christmas tree. She was on the student council, which made history by moving West's Prom from the customary Elitch Gardens Trocadour. The Student council did so due to racial discrimination. Jane's principal saw to it students in need of employment found such. Jane was placed at the Denver Pubic Schools Administration office to do clerical work. Jane's close friend Juanita married Roy Winterhalder after High School. After High School and World War II Jane was introduced, by Juanita and Roy, to a young veteran (Vernon H. Chaffin). Vernon had a gas station and a convertible which he used at Lakeside Amusement park to drive race queens around the track. Vernon and Jane married on July 24th 1948, she stated she never believed Vernon's age which was 7 years older than Jane. Jane and Vernon always lived in Denver; close to the Esquire Theater, at the DU Campus in the Quonset huts and two homes on the West side. When they lived on Hooker Street their son was born on December 30, 1952. They named him Mark Stanley Chaffin. Jane was involved PTA President, March of Dimes, and Governor Mansion restoration. Jane worked in offices at; Bethany Methodist Church, Sunmaster Drapery, and Del Pueblo Elementary School when she reitred. Jane and Vernon danced with Kilowatts 8's in square dancing and round dancing. They enjoyed square dancing for many years. After they retired, for the following five years, they traveled in a motor home around the USA. They took their two grandsons Michael and James on many camping and fishing trips. They decided to get back to Denver and moved into Windsor Gardens where she pursued golfing, ceramics, swimming, and many crafts. She served on many boards in Windsor Gardens. Jane has survived many health conditions and is a breast cancer survivor. Jane was married for 56 years, ending with Vernon's death on October 29th, 2004.
