James Trever

March 19, 1938 — April 20, 2023

Castle Rock, Colorado

James Francis Trever, age 85, went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2023 after a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.  He was at home, surrounded by family.

Jim was born in Oconto, Wisconsin to Lorraine Kain and George Leslie Trever, and grew up with siblings Les (brother), Sandie (sister) and Lois (sister).  He attended school and developed a life-long interest in sports.  He played football, basketball and baseball, excelling in the later.  He graduated from East De Pere High School and was given an opportunity to play semi-pro baseball.

Soon after, however, Jim decided to enlist in the United States Air Force. He served four years, working as a jet mechanic and a crew chief of a B-66. While serving in the Air Force, he met and married Beatrice Cawthon, a Georgia peach.  After the Air Force, Jim and Bea moved back to Wisconsin and started a family, having three daughters, Barb, Judy and Karen. It was as a young father that Jim came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior. The family began attending church and raising the girls to know about the Lord. Then, in the mid 70’s, Jim decided to follow his parents and sister to Colorado, and Les and family soon joined the group.

Over many years, Jim worked as a service tech for NCR and Brandt. He also worked sales and management. In 1988, he made a major career change and went to work for the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer.  After 18 years of service, he officially retired in 2006.

Jim’s enjoyed riding his Goldwing motorcycle, flying planes around the country on his home flight simulator and watching the Cubs and Rockies play ball on T.V.  He loved all kinds of music and could be found working around the house with music pouring out the windows. Jim was a people person, and relationships were very important to him. He spent many hours on his front porch visiting with neighbors, sharing stories over a glass of Pepsi. He had a sincere smile and a good word for everyone.

During Jim’s later years, his brother, Les, moved in to assist him as Parkinson’s issues began to make life more difficult. The last four years, while living with Karen and Don, he continued to keep busy working at his desk, writing and mailing greeting cards, working with his pictures and photo albums, and of course, making lots of phone calls to friends and family. With the growing limitations of Parkinson’s, making phone calls was an important way to continue and nurture the lifelong relationships he so cherished – they truly were a life line as the Parkinson’s progressed.  A special thank you to all those people who were able to continue phone conversations with Jim. It was deeply appreciated by Jim and by his family.

Jim is remembered for many wonderful qualities, but his daughters are most thankful they were taught about the Lord from an early age and now have their own personal relationships with Jesus Christ themselves. It is everything. They will see Jim again and celebrate eternity together.

Jim is survived by his brother, Les, sister, Lois (Ron), daughters, Barb (Brett), Judy (Troy) and Karen (Don), grandchildren, KC, Audrey (Jon), Trever (Abby), Carson, Nic (Chris), Lindsay (Tyler), Tannath and Tahnee, great-grandchildren, Journey, Jubilee, Eli, Trent, Braven, Kashton, Ronan and Raiden, nieces, Wendy (Mark) and Paula (Joe), nephew, Randall (Caitlin), great-nephews, Matthew and Joshua, and ex-wife, Beatrice.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Sandie (Joe), Barbie and Rodney, grandsons, Craig “C.J.” and Aaron, his ex-wife, Marilyn and her children.
