James Charles “Jim” Newhouse, devoted husband of 58 years to Katherine “Kathy” and loving father and grandfather, passed away in Denver on March 25,, 2026 at the age of 80. Jim leaves behind a legacy of a good, humble life filled with profound love and laughter.
Jim was born in Minneapolis, MN on September 12, 1945 to Bob and Jerry Newhouse. He grew up an only child, graduating from Washburn High School and earned a business associates degree from Minnesota State University. While working for JL Marsh, he met and married Kathy in 1968. Jim served in the National Guard for 6 years during which time they moved to Northglenn, Colorado where both their children, Bob and Susan, were born.
He worked for record distributors, JL Marsh and then Pickwick, for almost 30 years where he managed branches in San Jose, CA, Thousand Oaks, CA, and Arlington, TX where both Bob and Susan attended school. The family moved back to California in 1989 where he was VP of sales for JCI and then Madacy Entertainment. In the late 1990’s, he founded and ran his own audio and video distribution company, KC Sales (named after Kathy).
Upon retirement, James and Kathy moved back to Texas to be close to their grandchildren, James, Michael, and Ryan whom they followed to Jacksonville, Florida where they spent three years. The family moved to Denver in 2014 where Jim and Kathy had always hoped to retire. Jim’s greatest joys were spoiling his grandchildren and watching his favorite teams.
Jim followed the sports teams in every city he lived, but he could never really shake his love for the Denver Broncos and happily embraced his son’s obsession with all the Dallas sports teams.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Susan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy, his son Bob, daughter-in-law Angela, and grandchildren, James, Michael. and Ryan Newhouse, and family by choice Stephen Kelly and family.
Jim’s life will be celebrated in a service at Christ Lutheran Church in Highlands Ranch, CO on Friday, April 17th at 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jim’s name to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation or the University of Colorado Hospital Leukemia Foundation.
