James (Jim) Hastings, 99, of Lakewood, CO passed away on March 14, 2022 at Lakewood Reserve Assisted Living Center. Jim had been a resident at Lakewood Reserve since last June after suffering a stroke in his eye and losing most of his vision.
Jim was born in 1923 near Longmont, son of Vernon and Louise Hastings. He spent the first few months of his life in North Park Colorado with relatives while Louise recovered from childbirth. His family moved to a farm near Sterling, CO, where Jim grew up and graduated from Sterling High School in 1939, and met his future wife Della in 1940.
Jim moved to California and enlisted in the Navy in August of 1942, where he was ordered to Midshipman School. On March 8 1945, he married Della, graduated V-12 School from the University of Notre Dame and commissioned as an Officer in the Navy. Jim retired as a Commander, Civil Engineer Corps, US Naval Reserve in 1983.
After the war, Jim graduated from the University of Colorado in 1948 with a degree in civil engineering with honors. He worked many different jobs after graduating before returning to Denver where he was a principal in several local consulting engineering firms. Jim co-founded Anderson & Hastings Consulting Engineers in 1968 and successfully continued his engineering career until fully retiring in 1998.
Jim loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and especially playing golf. He was a member at Lakewood Country Club for over 40 years and served as Club President in 1980. Jim and Della loved to play golf with family and friends and spent many years together on the golf course.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Della, in 2013, and son-in-law Gary Borgeson, in 2017. He is survived by his daughters, Judy Borgeson and Donna Hastings, son, Jim Hastings (Janice), grandchildren Jaime (Matt) Beatty, Nick Borgeson, Mac (Caitlin) Hastings, Jake Hastings, Gary Hastings, and a great granddaughter.
A Memorial Service honoring Jim's life will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 10:00AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood. The reception will follow at Horan & McConaty. A Committal Service with Navy honors will be held following the reception at 1:30PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Navy League of the United States.
