James Joseph Godown, age 81, passed away on July 13, 2025, in Littleton, Colorado.

Born on May 16, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska, Jim lived a life defined by service, devotion to family, and quiet generosity. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a Technical Sergeant (TSGT). During his time in the military, he worked on B-52 bombers and served as a bomber guidance system trainer, playing a key role in the readiness and precision of strategic operations. His service was recognized with several honors, including the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five devices, Air Force Longevity Service Award with four devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

After his military career, he continued to lead with purpose and diligence as the Plant Safety Manager and Quality Control Officer at Woerner Engineering, where he worked for over a decade. In retirement, he spent his time as a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, relaxing and enjoying the slower pace of life he had earned.

Jim was a devoted husband and father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his second wife, Cindy; his sons Ken (Loree Breckencamp), Jeff (Marianne Hartner-Godown), and Chris; his grandchildren Kiersten Albin (RobertJohn Castanieto), Joseph (Nicole Godown), and Christina; and his great-grandchildren Weston Jercick, Kamia Castanieto, Robert Castanieto, and Margret Newburn. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Jo Bailey and Betty Van Woert (Darrell Van Woert).

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra, the mother of his children, as well as his parents, Leonard and Josephine.

Those who knew Jim remember him for his sharp wit, generous heart, and steady presence. He could tell a joke or pull off a look that would get a smile out of just about anyone. In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, working on cars, and playing football and several musical instruments. Over the years, he found joy in fishing, bowling, traveling when he could, and cooking — always keeping his hands and mind busy.
