It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, and brother Jim. `
Jim was part of a military family that lived all over the country and in Germany. He received a mailing for a small liberal arts college in Iowa, Grinnell College, and liking the look of the landscape decided to embark on his own journey there at 16 years of age. He graduated from Grinnell with a degree in Mathematics, followed by a Masters from University of Minnesota before settling down in Colorado where he received his Doctorate. After graduating, Jim worked in a number of tech companies before retiring to raise his children and take care of his health.
He met the love of his life, Mandy, in Boulder. They were together for close to 31 years and in that time, they had two children, two cats, three dogs, two hamsters, and schools of fish. Jim loved his road trips with Mandy and his kids; exploring out of the way places down state highways and country roads. When Jim wasn’t exploring the open road he enjoyed reading, listening to music, building Legos, and playing board games.
Jim was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and for the next 13 years while dealing with complications and treatments, he never lost his kind heart, dry sense of humor, or his ability for witty posts that his on-line community learned to love him through.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mandy; his two children, Eleanor and Tom; his mother and father Jim and Kiki; his three sisters Barbara D’Ambrosia, Betsy (Todd) Houck, Tricia (Mark) Schneider; his brother Rob (Liz) D’Ambrosia; and nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and in-laws.
Services will be on Saturday, November 22nd at 1pm at the Depot at Five Parks, 13810 W. 85th Dr., Arvada CO 80005 with subs, board games, and community at Jim and Mandy’s house following the service.
