James Edward Caskowski

Jun 17, 1948 — Jun 28, 2026

Beloved grandson of Andrzek and Maryanna Czajkowski, Jim was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He joined the Navy at age 17 and served aboard the USS Independence, later participating in the decommissioning of the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. During his service in the Navy, Jim was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War.

Jim attended Point Park College in Pittsburgh before moving to Pompano Beach, Florida, where he worked in facility management and developed a love for the game of golf that continued throughout his life.

After marrying Carol Haugen in 2005, the couple moved to Asheville, North Carolina. It was there that Jim learned the art of woodturning, which became both a passion and a craft at which he excelled.

His work was featured in several art galleries throughout North Carolina. Jim also generously donated his time and work to community organizations and charitable causes whenever he was asked.

His beautiful craftsmanship earned him numerous awards, but he found his greatest joy in sharing his work with others.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Haugen Caskowski; daughter Casey McDermott and son-in-law Bryan Le of Denver, Colorado; sisters Janet Haugen of Chicago, Illinois, and Elizabeth Anderson of Dallas, Texas.

Jim also leaves behind three dear friends: Randy Swing of Flat Rock, North Carolina; Tony Williams of Asheville, North Carolina; and Tim Bauer of Reese, Michigan.

Those who knew Jim best will remember his gentle heart, quiet strength, and the love and devotion he showed to his family and friends. He was a patient, talented, and deeply kind man who will be profoundly missed.
