Joined later in life by grandchildren Michael, Sammi, Joe and great grandchildren Aurora, Daniella, Jack, James and Palmer.
Beyond his biological family, through his firefighter brotherhood, he is survived by many others considered to be his brothers, sons, and daughters, to numerous to be listed here. He loved them all dearly.
Jack was a considerate, selfless giving man with a loving heart who made friends everywhere and ultimately family out of his friends. Few people possess his willingness to give so much of themselves to all others. The most important thing to Jack was the happiness and well-being of his beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and in reality, the well being and happiness of all of those around him.
Jack worked for the Denver Fire Department for 38 years. Captain Jack, as he is known by his brotherhood, was born into the Denver Fire Department and it became his lifelong passion. His grandfather and his father both were Denver firefighters. His son Mike would go onto be a Denver Firefighter and his son Scott serving as a firefighter for West Metro, becoming the fourth generation of professional firefighters. With Jack's 38 years of service to the DFD and his two sons years of service they have provided protection to their communities for over a 100 years combined service. This is something Jack was extremely proud of. Jack served in countless roles and capacities in his fire service career including responding to and developing technical and heavy rescue skills, before technical and heavy rescue were a known designation. Jack was instrumental in the acquisition and development of Denver's first heavy rescue squad. As a training officer for many years of his career his passion and delivery style has a positive impact on countless firefighters lives and careers.
During his career Jack also served as a vice president of Denver Firefighter Local 858. As well as volunteering for countless union events at the local, state and international level. Both of his sons also followed him in this servitude as union leaders. He was proud to have left this legacy to both the fire departments and unions they all served. After retiring from the fire department Jack served as a Vice President and President of the retired Denver Firefighters Association for years. He was passionate and dedicated in all of his rolls, big or small.
People come into our lives for all sorts of reasons. Some nurture us, some teach us life lessons, some help us become better people, better firefighters, better civil servants and some simply love us with all their hearts, Jack was that amazing person who did all these things and more for so many. He will forever be in the hearts of those who knew him.
