Howard Ernest Miller, 88, passed away on June 28, 2024, in Littleton, Colorado. He was born on September 22, 1935, to the late Albert Clayton and Marian Ruth Miller in Hugo, Colorado. After graduating from Genoa-Hugo High School, and later the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, he moved to the Brazosport area in Texas where he proudly lived until moving with his wife to Colorado in 2022 to be closer to their children.
Howard worked for BASF for 38 years. After retirement from BASF, he continued to work as a chemical engineering consultant for several more years. In retirement, he enjoyed regular get-togethers with his fellow retirees at Whataburger and IHOP in Lake Jackson for many years. His love of adventure continued well into his 70’s as he and his wife traveled the world, including trips to China (where he slept in a Mongolian yurt), Russia (where he rode the Trans-Siberian Railway), Scandinavia (where he walked among the reindeer in Lapland), Africa (where he adventured on a sight-seeing safari and encountered a number of exotic creatures), and Alaska (where he saw the Iditarod dogs train).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Roy Louis Miller. Howard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie, daughter Julie Sodano (John) of Centennial, Colorado, son Gary Miller (Kristi Kuetemeier) of Golden, Colorado, grandson Richard Sodano, brother Dale (Helen) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, nephews John Miller and Albert Miller, and nieces Mary Petersen and Aimee Hart.
Following Howard’s wishes, a small family ceremony will occur at a later date. Burial will be at Richland Prairie Church-Scotland Cemetery in Fillmore County, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nature Conservancy, the National WWII Museum, or the American Heart Association.
