Howard Henry Hoskins

March 26, 1928 — June 4, 2024

Littleton

Howard, son of Benjamin and Ada Hoskins of Ashtabula, Ohio, died peacefully in his sleep after a brief period of ill health following a fall.  He was 96, independent, living in the family home built in 1969 in what was then considered Littleton.  Howard married Elizabeth Ann (Sue) Hoskins in 1953, and she preceded him in death in 2016.

Howard was a proud graduate of THE Ohio State University,  and served in the Army during the Korean War.   During his stint in OCS, he met is future brother in law,  Joseph Withers, who introduced Howard and Sue while Howard was stationed at 5th Army Headquarters in Chicago.  They were married at 5th Army Headquarters after a brief romance.  After serving as a lieutenant, Howard and Sue made their way back to Ohio - Howard’s home state where he worked for Republic Steel and learned the new field of data processing.  In 1965 Howard moved to Colorado to work for Martin Marietta. He retired from the Denver Water Department many years ago, and he and Sue traveled the world, often on cruise ships, taking over 35 cruises together in retirement.

Howard was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.   He enjoyed camping with the family and friends, coaching girls youth soccer in the 70’s in the Littleton Soccer Association, golfing and playing cards in the Senior Men’s League at South Suburban (up to and including playing cards with his friends the last weeks of his life), and was an active skier until he broke his arm at 80 at Keystone taking “one more run.”

Howard and Sue are survived by two children and their spouses - Craig Hoskins (Becky) of Richmond, VA, and Mary Baca (Mike) of Timnath, CO.  They had 6 Grandchildren, Ben (Ginny) Sam (Shannon) Jacob (Libby) and Joe Hoskins, and Grant and Madeline Baca.  They also have 5 Great Grandchildren, John, Craig, James, Robert, and Fisher Hoskins.   He also leaves behind many dear friends, and wonderful neighbors.  All of those should know how much he valued their friendship, kindness, and camaraderie.
