Howard Ellis

Howard Ronald “Ron” Ellis of Aurora, CO, died peacefully on March 14, 2023. He was 90 years old. Ron was born June 25, 1932, in Springfield, Illinois. His parents were Howard O. and Irma K. Ellis

Ron grew up in Springfield and went to Feitshans HS and was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955. He married Sharon Marie Coggan in 1954 and they were married for 65 years. Ron is survived by 4 sons and a daughter in the Denver area; Larry (Debbie) Ellis, Craig Ellis, Cynthia Ellis, Mark (Lisa) Ellis, David Ellis, 4 granddaughters, 4 great-grandchildren, his sister Margery Hohl of Jerome, Ill, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, sister Shirley, brother Larry, and his parents.

Ron attended the University of Illinois, on an academic scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1955, where he was member of Chi Epsilon and Sigma Tau honorary societies. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves Signal Corp.

He was a registered professional engineer in Illinois and began his career with the State of Illinois Hwy Department, moving on to Robert Anderson Consulting and The Martin Corporation which brought him and his family to Colorado, Arizona, and back to Colorado where he worked for several contractors to the Department of Energy.

Ron was a lifelong University of Illinois fan as well as a University of Colorado 52-year football season ticket holder as well as a 50-year Denver Bronco season ticket holder. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids in their various sports and coached both baseball and soccer. He was an avid skier and taught all his kids to ski as well as golf, swim, play baseball, softball and many, many other sports.

He adored his family and was especially close with his brother and sisters and looked forward to returning to Illinois every year for water skiing, swimming, golfing, and visiting.

A memorial service will be held Friday March 31, 2023, 11 AM at the Horan & McConaty Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth, Aurora, CO, followed by a reception.
