Hester Ruth Strietelmeier Born July 13, 1933 Died August 7, 2014 Hester was born in Minden, Nebraska to Edward Herman Ahlemeyer and Alma (Peterson) Ahlemeyer. Her father was a Lutheran minister and an Army chaplain, which meant her childhood was spent ""on the move."" She graduated from high school in Yokohama, Japan and then attended Kearney State Teacher's College. In 1953, her father was posted to the army base in Columbus, Indiana. Hester made the wise choice to join her family there and quickly met Robert Strietelmeier, just returned from the Korean War. They were married on November 7, 1953 and Hester settled into the role of farm wife in Columbus for the next 47 years. They quickly became a family of four when their children, Sherry and Dan, were born in 1954 and 1957. Hester and Bob were partners both on their grain farm, as well as in their insurance agency which they owned for many years. In 1963, they became founding members of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus where Hester also took on the role of organist and choir director, reflecting her lifelong love for and talents in music. She held those positions until her retirement in 2000. In the year 2000, Bob and Hester made the move to Colorado where they could enjoy nearly every performance, game, and all the major life events of their 5 grandchildren. They rarely missed anything and Hester reveled in being the hub of her family's life. She began facing major health challenges in 2006, and through her strength and determination, beat the odds time and time again for 8 years. She will be long remembered and greatly missed by her husband Bob; her children Sherry Hoerl (Don) and Dan Strietelmeier (Jill); her grandchildren Rebecca Hoerl Vierhaus (Eric), Julie Hoerl, Blaire Strietelmeier, Trent Strietelmeier, and Scott Strietelmeier; her brothers Edward Ahlmeyer (Virginia) and David Ahlemeyer (Diane); and her nieces and nephews Debbie, Ed, Leslie, Lisa, John Mark, Chad and Addie.
