Herbert Richard "Bert" Van Fleet

Herbert (Bert) R. Van Fleet was a proud family man, veteran, golfer, fisherman, and contractor. He passed away at his home in Westminster, Colorado, on September 4, 2026, at age 85, surrounded by his loving family. Bert was born in 1945 in Mt. Vernon, New York, where he was raised with his 3 siblings, Marilyn, Charles, and Jimmy.

He honorably served his country in the Air Force in Korea. After the service, he worked at Litton Industries and traveled extensively as a military contractor. He then worked for Microform Data Systems and got his associate’s degree at Seton. In 1980, he changed his career and founded Van’s General Contracting while living in Pleasantville, NY. In 2005, he and his wife, Lois, left New York and moved to Colorado to be with their children and brother.

He was a gifted golfer who won many awards and took his golf clubs wherever he went. He especially loved to play in Naples, Florida, where he spent many months of the year at his Vanderbilt Country Club. He also loved to fish and be out on the water and was the champion fisherman of the fishing club. Every fish he caught was the “biggest fish you have ever seen”.

He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. This past June, he celebrated 54 years of marriage with his wife, Lois. He is survived by his son, James and his wife Alicia, and his daughter, Allison and her husband Michael; and his four cherished grandchildren, Logan, Zoe, Theodore, and Camille. His friends and family brought him great joy, and he was always ready for a party.
