Helene Bowers Gustafson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Aug. 29, 2026 at her longtime home in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. She was 93 years old.

Helene was born on March 7, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, to James F. Bowers, Jr. and Helen Bowers. She was a student and later a proud alumna of the Sacred Heart schools in Chicago and New York. She continued her education at Sheridan Road and Manhattanville and also attended The Art Institute of Chicago.

In 1956, Helene married Walt Gustafson, beginning a marriage that would span over 70 years. They raised their five children, Mark, Hugh, Timothy, Leslie and Dana, and built a life centered around family, friendships and shared experiences in Denver, Colorado.

Helene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walt, who passed away earlier this year, as well as by her sons Mark, Hugh and Timothy. She is survived by her daughters, Leslie and Dana, as well as a granddaughter, six grandsons and two great-grandsons.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday September 18th at 10:00am at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S Monaco Pkwy, Denver, CO 80222.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Denver Hospice or Catholic Charities.
