Her mother stayed at home raising Helen's sister Peg who had polio. Helen attended Mooseheart from the age of 2 until she graduated from there at the age of 18. To this day she has many close friends from Mooseheart. She attended college for two years in Illinois where she later met and married Alan (Al) Stein. Al was in the army at the time and they spent time in army bases in Illinois and Georgia. After the service the settled down in Downers Grove Illinois where they adopted they're only child Patti. From Downers Grove, Al was transferred to Denver Colorado and that is where they wanted to remain. She was a huge Denver Bronco fan and loved spending Sunday's watching football. She was also an avid gardener and loved working in her yard. When she wasn't spending time with family or watching football you would often find her walking her dog and visiting with her neighbors. Helen requested no funeral be held. A small family only gathering will be held in the mountains where her ashes will be scattered along with husband Al's.
