Helen Irene Holmes

Helen Irene Anderson was born December 6, 1929 in Linn Grove, Iowa. The daughter of Orville and Ethel (Emanuelson) Anderson. Helen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended public school in Linn Grove and Cornell, Iowa. She graduated from high school in 1947.

In 1949 she graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, earning a two year teacher’s certificate. She taught Elementary School in Cherokee, Iowa for one year.

She married Robert L. Holmes in 1950. They moved to Colorado and had two children, Bradley Dean and Trudy Lynn. Helen attended the University of Denver, receiving her BA degree in 1964. She taught in Jefferson County Schools for 22 years and retired in 1986.

Music was a big part of her life. She participated in several groups of singers in high school. As a soloist she won 1^st Place in the Iowa State Music Contest in 1947. She sang and traveled with the Buena Vista College Choir and later sang in her church choir.

She and Bob enjoyed working on geneology. They traveled to Norway and Sweden twice researching their family history.

Preceeding her in death was her husband Robert, her son Brad, her parents, three brother – Dayle, George, and Gary, four sisters – Edith, Dorothy, Barb, and Betty, three brothers-in-law – Red, Ronny, and Gerald, and two sister’s-in-law – Lela and Debres.

She is survived by her daughter Trudy (husband Dan) and her daughter-in-law Deborah. She is also survived by her grandchildren – Jim (Sarah), Stephen (Nicole), Bryan (Colbi), David (Jess), and her great-grandchildren Tucker, Kieran, Ella, Mia, Kyleigh, Brant, Barrett, Hunger, Colton, her sister Janet (John), her brother Dick (Cynthia), brother-in-law Byron and sister-in-law Julie.

Services will be held at the Abiding Hope Church, 6337 South Robb Way, Littleton, Colorado 80127 on Monday, August 21st, 2023 at 11:00 AM. A Private Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later time.
