Harold Alan Dahlbach

July 6, 1945 — June 15, 2025

Aurora

Harold Alan “Al” Dahlbach, affectionately known as Big Al, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, just short of his 80th birthday. His entire immediate family surrounded him at the time of his passing.

Al was the only child of Harold and Mary Lou Dahlbach. He grew up on his family farm just outside of Toluca, IL. This is where Al developed his strong work ethic and conservative values. Attending Church every Sunday at St. John's Lutheran and tending to the crops and miscellaneous tasks on the farm. After high school, Al attended college at Wartburg, majoring in pre-seminary. His college chapter was cut short after his father needed his help back on the farm after breaking his ankle.

Al eventually took a job working on a railroad at a phosphate fertilizer plant in Henry, IL. From humble beginnings, through hard work and a bit of luck, Al eventually became the Chief Operating Officer of a global phosphate fertilizer company. He spent countless hours breaking international boundaries by providing phosphate fertilizer to Europe and Asia. He was also successful in taking another fertilizer company public on the US stock market. His work was important to him, but the most significant driving factor in his success as a businessman was to provide the best possible life for his family.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Al’s strength, warmth, and quiet wisdom left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Al was the devoted husband of Billie Jean (Greer), with whom he shared 60 years of his life. They met in Peoria, IL., and lived in Memphis, Atlanta, Tampa, and finally settled in Denver. Together they raised two children, Todd and Amy, who were his pride and joy.

He was a cherished grandfather to Samantha, Aiden, Zach, Cody, Hailey, and Sarah. His love for his grandchildren was boundless, and he treasured every moment spent with them, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons. He attended every game, recital, or other special occasion they presented.

While Al’s career in agriculture was remarkable, he is best remembered for his personal interests and values. He was a high school basketball player, an avid golfer, and a boater. He loved draft horses and KU basketball. Most importantly, he held family above all else.

Al’s life will be celebrated in Colorado on Sunday, June 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at Horan & McConaty (5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122). Al’s internment will be held on Saturday, August 30th at St. John’s Cemetery in Toluca, IL.
