Guadalupe Torres Cantu, devoted husband, beloved father, friend.
Born July 23, 1931, passed from this life May 1, 2026.
“Wally” was born in Gonzales Texas, to Fermin Cantu and Julia Torres Cantu. At age 17 Wally enlisted in the Army and served honorably in the Korean War. Wally achieved the rank of Sargent First Class, and was proud of his service to his country. While stationed in Colorado Springs Colorado, he met his beloved Cora at a dance. Cora and Wally were married on March 22, 1952, they were married for 66 years.
Wally and Cora had four children David, Kathryn (Goulding), Laura and Brenda) and seven grandchildren (Sarah, Greg, Ryan, Brian, Daniel, Rachel, Veronica) and two great grandchildren (Caroline and Anderson).
Wally had a long career with Amtrack Railways. He retired as a station manager at Denver Union Station. He was a hard-working man and held multiple jobs at a time to provide for his family.
Wally was a friend to all who met him. He loved people and could easily talk to anyone. His positive attitude and playful nature defined him. While his life wasn’t always easy, he never dwelt on the downturns, he always looked to the future. He was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His frequently uttered phrase was “Let me help you with that”.
Wally learned to ski in the Colorado Rocky Mountains as part of his training in the 10th mountain division. He fell in love with the mountains and built a family cabin at Twin Lakes CO. The home has been the center of so many wonderful family gatherings. He generously and patiently taught generations of kids to fish (too many to count) and built many campfires at Twin Lakes.
Wally loved to build and tinker. He had more tools than any man really needs, however his most successful tool was his open heart, and he used that to build a beautiful life. He will be lovingly remembered.
