Gregory Scott Schalck

Feb 2, 1973 — Aug 19, 2026

We will always remember Greg as the fiercely loyal, deeply caring, protective, and endlessly supportive man he was. We are so thankful to have known him and grateful that he is now at peace. He died peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long illness.

To those who knew him well, Greg was sarcastic on the outside, but soft-hearted underneath. He was stubborn, endlessly amused by his own jokes, and one of the most bighearted and loving people you could ever hope to know.

He could fix any piece of machinery known to man and had the most fun when a job involved 100 or more parts laid out across the garage, waiting to be put back together in precisely the right order. He also loved a good practical joke and was infamous in the family for choosing the wrong career, since — according to his mother — “he should have been a comedian.” He was also known throughout the neighborhood for his creative and funny Halloween pirate ship display, with people driving by each day to see what mischief the pirate skeletons had gotten into overnight.

Most importantly, Greg was a loving husband and father who created cherished memories for his family. He always had a corny “dad joke” on hand, guaranteed to make his son’s eyes roll. Father-son time meant launching rockets at the nearby park or racing a remote control car — one that may or may not have been bought for Greg to play with himself. He loved imparting fatherly wisdom at every turn, whether it was how to change the oil in a car, which ’80s movies were the best, or how to solve a Rubik’s Cube. He built holiday traditions with his family and could bake an amazing apple pie, sharing the secret ingredient with his son — and only his son. He gave the strongest bear hugs to the people he loved and made sure they knew how much he cared.

Greg loved fiercely, he showed up for the people who mattered to him, and he left behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured always.

Greg was born in Highland Park, IL, and grew up in Deerfield, IL, graduating from Deerfield High School before earning his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He and his wife, Hope, lived in Oregon for one year before settling in the Denver area and eventually making their home in Parker, CO.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Hope Schalck (née Tedesco); his son, Jack; his father, Michael Schalck, and his wife Barb Brantigan; his sister, Becky Rabe (née Schalck), and her husband, Deane Rabe; and their children, Alex and Corina Rabe. He was preceded in death by his mother, Angela Schalck (née Gibour).

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Thursday August 27th at 2:30 pm MT at Horan & McConaty in Centennial.
