Gregory James Hudley, known to everyone as Greg, completed his life journey on October 8th, 2026, just a few days shy of his 75th birthday. Greg was born in Denver, CO on October 13th, 1951 to Vern & Celeste Hudley. A lifelong resident, he was a true son of the city he loved.
Greg attended Denver Public Schools & graduated in 1970 from East High School, where he got his start as a track & field star and his talented athleticism earned him a bit of a reputation. That need for speed never left him. Driven by a lifelong passion for cars, he then attended Denver Automotive & Diesel College, where he honed his talent for fixing engines. Greg worked for RTD as an operator/instructor until his retirement in 2005, building a career defined by dedication & hard work.
On February 19th, 1972, Greg married the love of his life, Katherine (Mel) Hudley. Together they built a life centered on family. To this union was born two sons - Gregory James, Jr, & DeVaughn James; one daughter, Christian (Chrissy) Dawn. Their family was later blessed with 3 beloved grandchildren.
Greg was quick with a joke and even quicker with a tease. If you knew him, chances are you were on the receiving end of both at least once. That was simply Greg. Beneath all the joking, though, he was a protector through & through, He looked out for his family fiercely.
Greg was a lifelong car enthusiast, happiest when he was tinkering under a hood, talking cars, or lighting up a strip at Bandimere Speedway. He loved attending car shows and was a proud member of the Old Skool Rollers car club, where he found friendship & community among others who shared his passion. When he wasn't chasing horsepower, he could often be found enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. While he enjoyed those activities, it was the friendships, stories and camaraderie that meant the most to him.
Greg never met a stranger, even later in life, he was continually introducing family members to friends they never knew he had. His gift of connecting with people left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. But if you asked Greg what meant that most to him, the answer was easy. It was his family and especially his granddaughters. JaNaya, Anayah & Davian were the light of his life. They received the very best of his teasing, his jokes and his big heart. Nothing brought him greater pride or joy than being their Papa.
Greg is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Katherine “Mel” Hudley; his son, DeVaughn Hudley, daughter, Chrissy Hudley (Delmar), Sister-in-law, Majorie Hudley & his three cherished granddaughters, JaNaya Hudley, Anayah Rucker & Davian Hudley in along with beloved cousins, nieces, nephews & countless friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Vern & Celeste, his sister, La Verna Jean, his brother, Darrold & his son Gregory, Jr. We take comfort knowing that he has been reunited with them.
Greg lived a full life, full of speed, laughter, friendship and love. He'll be missed more than words can express; but, the stories, the jokes, the laughter and the memory of his mischievous grin will keep him close in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Friends & family are invited to gather and celebrate Greg's life on October 23rd, 2026 , at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service & Cremation , located at 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. Aurora, CO 80014. A final, private interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery at a later date.
