Grace Tanaka née Oba died peacefully on May 20, 2026 in Aurora, CO at the age of 91.
She graduated from Alamosa High School with the class of 1953 and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and School of Nursing Diploma from the University of Denver and Saint Luke's Hospital. She worked at Saint Luke's in Denver for several years as an RN and supervising nurse. She was later a school nurse at Eastridge Elementary, Summit Elementary, and High Plains Elementary in the Cherry Creek School District in Colorado and Rainbow Elementary in Ansbach, Germany. "Mrs. Tanaka" treated literally thousands of kids for their cuts, stings, concussions, medications, high temps, and more.
She married Wilbur in 1961, and they had two sons, Steve and Alan. She now joins Wilbur who died in 2006. They were exceptional parents and people, and they will be missed.
The family will be having a graveside committal.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to Humane Denver (formerly Dumb Friends League animal shelter). https://donate.humanecolorado.org/campaign/700718/donate
