Gloria E. Whatley passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, Mother’s Day, surrounded by her loving children. She was 91 years old. She was born on October 23, 1934, in Borinquen, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to Antolino Caban Acevedo and Juana Arce Rosario.
Gloria was the devoted wife of Robert C. Whatley, who preceded her in death. Gloria was surrounded by her children when she passed and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was the beloved mother of Veronica E. Brugger (Roni), Robert L. Whatley (Robbie), and Linda M. Maes.
Gloria was a kind, caring and selfless woman who always placed the needs of her family before her own. She faced life challenges with remarkable courage, strength, and dignity, and her unwavering love and support were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Gloria instilled in her family the values of love, hard work, compassion, and doing what is right. She was a true role model whose legacy will continue to live through the many lives she has touched.
She will be forever cherished by her children and their spouses Scott Maes and Pamela Whatley; her grandchildren, Tommy Strahle, Anthony Strahle, Danny Strahle – wife Charlee Strahle, Melissa Barney – husband Adam Barney, Kyle Whatley – wife Brianna Whatley, Melanie Whatley, Jonathan Maes – wife Kiara Arguello, Emilee Maes, Jade Diaz; and her great- grandchildren Caelum Petigrue, Delilah Maes, Mia Maes, Chase Piscatelli, Victoriana (Tori) Piscatelli, Marley Strahle and soon to be born Veronica Strahle.
Gloria was preceded in death by her siblings, Anita Andersen, Luis Caban, Santos Caban, and Carmen O’Connor. She is survived by her sister, Angela Caban.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing Gloria’s love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain with us always.
The funeral service will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Parish on June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
