Glenda Hinz

September 18, 1935 — April 19, 2023

Glenda Marciel Hinz ( nee Hilty), 87, died quietly at her home on April 19, 2023.

Glenda was born September 18, 1935 on a small farm in Evergreen Township, Cheyenne County, Kansas the first daughter and second child of Floyd A. and H. Wanda (nee Keever) Hilty.  She was the first girl born into the Hilty family in 72 years.  A story she spent her lifetime sharing.

She attended school in Bird City, Kansas and graduated from Bird City High School in 1953.  She studied and took an interest in accounting and bookkeeping in high school mentored by her grandfather Alvin H. Keever.

She began her career in 1954 at the Bird City Co-Op; she further attained title of Vice President of Accounting at Belmont Electric in the 1970's; and after 26 years with Rozeboom & Company, retired in 2000.  Four years later she came out of retirement and went to work for Sares-Regis, a property management company.  In 2013 came her final retirement.

Glenda married Robert “Bob” Louis Hinz - her high school sweetheart - on August 5, 1956 and to this union two children were born.  Melany Lou in 1957 and Truitt James in 1958.  She and Bob maintained their homes in western Kansas (St Francis, Tribune, and Goodland) until 1968 when they moved the family to Lakewood, Colorado.

Glenda was one to keep busy.  When she wasn't working, she traveled to national bowling tournaments with her sister, Gayla and took a cruise through the Panama Canal.  She crafted many pieces of needlework and was an avid reader of romance novels.  In retirement, she still had a fondness for numbers and took on the slot machines “up on the hill" along with many hours in the bingo halls of the Denver metro area.

In March 2001 she married Vernon E Van Dyke.  They did some traveling to Arizona and then returned to Lakewood where he passed in 2014.

Glenda continued to be a very independent soul up to her last day, having lived the past four years at Lakeview Senior Living center.  She will be missed by family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gene.  She is survived by her sister Gayla Buethe (Larry Buethe) and her sister Gorda Adelgren; her two children Melany Michael (Bill Westhoff); Truitt Hinz (Maxine Hinz); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
