Gerald "Jerry" Hoban

Gerald “Jerry” Hoban, a man remembered for his deep kindness, quiet strength, and steadfast faith, passed away peacefully on October 13 at the age of 78. His life was a living reflection of love in action—humble, generous, and rooted in his devotion to God and family.

When we think of Jerry, we think of someone who didn’t just speak about faith—he lived it every day. His words were gentle, his presence steady, and his actions spoke volumes. Whether through a warm smile, a helping hand, or a word of encouragement, Jerry brought light into the lives of others. His love was constant and dependable, a reflection of the divine love he believed in: patient, selfless, and enduring.

Jerry was a man who took his responsibilities seriously, not out of obligation, but out of love. He worked hard throughout his life, never seeking praise or recognition, but rather fulfillment in doing what was right and good. He built his life around service—to his family, his friends, his community, and anyone who needed support. In his humility and generosity, Jerry mirrored the example of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.

Beyond his dedication to work and service, Jerry embraced life with curiosity and joy. He had a remarkable enthusiasm for learning and discovery. He was fascinated by astronomy, often spending quiet evenings gazing at the night sky in wonder. He loved swimming, reading, and exploring new interests, always seeking to understand the world more deeply. His sense of wonder and zest for life were contagious, inspiring those around him to see beauty in the everyday.

Above all, Jerry’s heart belonged to his family. He found profound meaning in being a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend. His family was the foundation of his life and the joy of his heart. Every decision, every act of care, every moment of patience was rooted in his deep and abiding love for them. The way he provided, protected, and stood by those he loved is a legacy that will continue to guide his family for generations.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love—a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished. He is survived by Louise Hoban, Timothy M. Hoban, Christi Hoban, Timothy J. Hoban, Lilly Davey, Sabrina and Patrick Snyder, Sandra Snyder and three great-grandchildren, and by countless friends who were blessed to know him.

A funeral Mass will be held on November 7th at 11 at Our Lady of Loreto. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Salvation Army, one of his favorite charities.

Jerry’s kindness, faith, and love will live on in all who knew him. His was a life of quiet greatness—one that left the world brighter, gentler, and more loving.”
