Georgia Lois Buttermore

February 27, 1924 — November 12, 2023

Arvada, Colorado

Georgia Lois Buttermore died at the age of 99 in Wheat Ridge Colorado on November 12, 2023.

Georgia was born February 27, 1924 in Webster Kansas to George and Rose Winters. She was the second of seven children. She is survived by brothers Alva and Lennie.

During the depression years she moved to Colorado with her family for a short period of time before returning to Kansas. She graduated from high school during World War Two. During the war she went with her sister Viola to California where Viola’s husband was stationed in the Army. While there she and her sister fueled airplanes. She then moved to Wichita, Kansas where she worked for Boeing.. After the war she met Marcell Buttermore in Woodston, Kansas, and they married on November 11, 1946 and moved to Wichita Kansas where Marcell found work as an electrician. In Wichita two children were born, Jean in 1947 and Alan in 1949. The family moved to Colorado Springs where Marcell worked at the Air Force Academy.  While living in Colorado Springs twins Beth and Bruce joined the family in 1958. The family moved to Denver and bought a house that she lived in for nearly 60 years.

Georgia was a creative person. She enjoyed crafting and liked to sew, and made many quilts for the family. She loved to hunt and collect rocks to polish and display, and had quite a collection. She liked to watch and feed the birds, and every spring put out little baskets so the finches would have a place to build nests, and for a time had a pet canary named Blue.

Mostly, Georgia was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was mother to Jean, Alan, Bruce, and Beth; mother-in-law to Howard and Cindy; grandmother to Craig (Tana), Steven (Kristin), Jeremy and Holly (Brian), and great grandmother to Dax, Quinn, Maverick, Kaine, Gabrielle, Everett and Maddox.

Georgia lived in her home until age 93 when she moved to Ralston Creek Neighborhood and was there until her illness.

Donations can be made in her honor to the Audubon Society, Alzheimer's Foundation-Colorado chapter.
