George Richard Tyrrell

George Richard Tyrrell passed away on July 8, 2025 in Lakewood, Colorado. He was born December 23, 1940 in Pekin, Illinois. In his youth he moved with his family to Colorado, the state he called home for the remainder of his long, well lived life. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Tyrrell in 1982 at their cabin in Black Hawk, Colorado and enjoyed 39 years of marriage with her and his bonus daughter Kimberly Carvin.

George graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in electrical engineering and then chose to serve his country by enlisting in the US Navy. He served 4 years before being honorably discharged as Lieutenant in 1968. His Navy years were forever a source of pride for him and he was grateful for the experience to travel the world by way of the open seas, the camaraderie and the opportunity to put his electrical engineering degree to use.

After his time in the Navy, he joined Martin Marietta during the NASA era and worked as an engineer on the team that developed Skylab. He enjoyed a long career with Hewlett Packard and Lockheed Martin, eventually retiring and continuing his work as a private consultant before he finally hung up his suit and tie at the age of 77.

Amongst Geroge’s interests, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Betty. They visited every corner of their beloved Colorado and loved the mountains. They took countless cruises to exotic locations, and even made their way to the Arctic Circle together.

George was a devoted, dedicated and hard working man who was as honest as they come. He never once received a speeding ticket, something he was quite proud of as that is a very small club to be a member of! He loved red wine and chocolate chip cookies, cats and Batman, gadgets and tools and fixing any and everything. Most of all he loved his country, his family and God. He lived an honorable life he was proud of.

George is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Carvin and her husband Brian Carvin, of Lakewood Colorado; 2 loving grandsons, Camden and Maddox; his brother Jon Tyrrell (Shelia) of Westminster, Colorado; sister Lu Anne Tyrrell of Montrose, Colorado; many nieces and nephews and was great-uncle to many.

George was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Tyrrell; parents, Ralph George Tyrrell and Lucille Mae Tyrrell, and sister Mary Joanne Blumenberg.

A Military Honor Service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, 11am, Fort Logan National Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
