George Allen Sneddon

George Allen Sneddon passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024, at his home with this family by his side. He lived 88 years of a fulfilling life.

George was born to George and Lois Sneddon in a coal mining camp is Rugby, Colorado on March 26,1936.  He was raised in La Veta, Colorado, as one of five siblings.

He graduated from La Veta High School in 1954. He promptly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He never forgot the merits of his three years in the Marine Corps and always lived up to the saying, "Once a Marine, always a Marine."

George and Barbara Kennedy were married in 1957 in Boulder, Colorado. Together they raised a cherished family, which includes two sons, Mark (Lori) and Michael (Shelly), and two daughters, Laurel (John) and Lisa (Farook), seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, as well as three step-grandchildren.  

George attended Colorado State College in Greeley, Colorado where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, preparing himself for a teaching career.

George began his teaching career in Jefferson County Public Schools and continued until his retirement.  He enjoyed teaching earth science and, especially, the opportunity to interact with his students and their parents as well as his teaching colleagues.  

The sound of a bouncing basketball was music to George's ears. He played basketball from an early age through high school, his military service, college, and adulthood.  He especially enjoyed his years of coaching basketball and track.

After retiring from Columbine High School, George and Barbara enjoyed traveling in both the United Sates and abroad. They also spent time compiling their family histories.  

George is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years and a large family who has a treasure chest of fond memories of a loved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.  He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd.

Sevices will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at 11:00AM at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home located at 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard in Lakewood, Colorado.
